DAR ES SALAAM Tanzania, Capital Markets in Africa — On Friday Tanzania Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange equity market maintained the positive sentiment compared to Wednesday’s trading session (market was closed on Thursday for Muslim Eid-ul-Adha’s celebration). The equity market capitalization added TZS 2.34 billion (about US$1.08 million) to end at TZS 22,164 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 22,162 billion recorded at previous trading session.
The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) surged 0.27 points or 0.01 percent to end at 2,530.38 points. The Tanzanian domestic Share Index rose by 1.12 points or 0.02 percent to close at 4,593.15 points.
The Banks, Finance & Investment sector index slipped by 1.13 points or 0.04 percent to end at 2,945.13 points. Industrial & Allied sector index added 0.05 percent or 2.86 points to close at 6,222.17 points and Commercial services sector index remained unchanged to close at 4,024.41.
Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 140.10 million from 113,980 shares traded in 42 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 190.08 million from 75,368 shares traded in 37 deals. CRDB had 100,095 shares traded in 25 deals and National Microfinance Bank exchanged 7,300 shares in 6 deals. Tanzania Breweries Limited traded 4,096shares in 3 deals. Tanzania Cigarette Company traded 1,000 shares in 2 deals and TOL Gases Limited had 40 in 2 deals and Tanzania Portland Cement Limited had 1,085 shares in 3 deals.
On the market strength/breath perspectives, the markets breathe ended positive today, with three gainers and a loser. National Microfinance Bank added 0.70 percent to settle at TZS 2,890; TOL Gases Limited grew by 0.66 percent to close at TZS 760.00 and Tanzania Breweries Limited surged by 0.07 percent to end at TZS 15,180. Conversely, CRDB Tanzania fell by 1.33 percent to settle at TZS 370.00.
